Biography
Christina Goodwin was born and raised in Massachusetts and recently
graduated from Boston University with her B.F.A. in Painting. She
has devoted her work recently to paintings of cars in parking garages,
on highways
and in empty lots. Some have compared her work to "film noir" and
many find the handling of her subjects "deeply original and
filled with movement:"
Before college, Goodwin was took night classes
in painting with a BU alumnus, Jack Highberger, at his school,
Acorn
Gallery, in Marblehead, MA. It was there she learned traditional
painting methods. In 2001, she was accepted
to Boston University's College of Fine Arts.
At BU, she trained with some of many acclaimed contemporary artists--Richard
Raiselis, Stuart Baron and Hugh O'Donnell, just to name a few.
It was from this esteemed faculty she was given the freedom and
confidence
to pursue a subject few have handled with her same care and creativity.
After she graduated, she was awarded a residency at the
Vermont Studio Center, where she was able to work further and
interact with artists from around the nation.
Goodwin hopes her paintings convey a human presence, despite
the fact that there are no figures in the compositions. She
believes very strongly that it is the cars themselves that
represent people
and many a viewer has agreed.
Goodwin also hopes to capture the kind of genuine beauty that
lies in often the most uncomfortable situations where we
leave our cars
behind. Parking garages are a perfect example. A parking
garage is a place where no one wants to be, but Goodwin wants
people
to stop
and understand how parking garages can also be beautiful
and interesting.
